Katherine Olmstead is a floral designer and creative arts community educator based in Victoria, British Columbia. In 2023, she became the first Canadian to earn the title of International Master Florist, graduating from the Boerma Institute in the Netherlands under the mentorship of internationally renowned floral artist Gregor Lersch.

Her work explores flowers and botanical materials through seasonality, natural relationships, and meaning, with an emphasis on thoughtful sourcing and creative mechanics.

Rather than treating sustainability as a separate consideration, Katherine sees it as part of high quality design. Her approach favours seasonal and locally grown materials where possible, reusable and biodegradable mechanics, resourcefulness, and a deeper awareness of where floral materials come from, how they are used, and what remains afterwards.

Through Under The Rose, Katherine creates floral work for celebrations, installations, collaborations, wearable botanicals, and experimental creative projects. Her practice increasingly moves between floristry and other forms of making, exploring traditional craft, natural materials, and the possibilities that emerge when disciplines overlap.

Education is an equally important part of her work. Through workshops, demonstrations, and mentorship, Katherine encourages a hands-on and curious approach to floral design. One rooted in observation, experimentation, play, and a closer relationship with the plants and landscapes around us.
